ALGEPI Partners at ECREA 2024: Presenting Epistemic Welfare

October 9, 2024

From the 24th to the 27th of September, ALGEPI consortium partners attended the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia, contributing critical insights to discussions on Epistemic Welfare.

Aaron Hyzen (AMSoC) presented the joint paper titled “Untouched Minds in a Tangled Web: Navigating ‘Epistemic Welfare’ Amidst Digital Propaganda” on September 25th, on behalf of himself and Emine Ozge Yildirim-Vranckaert (CiTiP). The paper explores relevant perspectives on mental autonomy and epistemic harm within the digital sphere.

Likewise, Michelle Kulig (AMSoC and DCM) contributed to the conversation linking epistemic standards to editorial practices and the governance of recommender systems. Together with Aaron Hyzen, their presentation focused on the adoption of these standards to be adopted and ensure epistemic autonomy in the media landscape.
