About the project

ALGEPI (understanding ALGorithmic gatekeepers to promote EPIstemic welfare) is a 4-year interdisciplinary research project funded by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO), planned to run in 2023-2027.

Technological and economic developments have led to the availability of an overwhelming quantity of digital content. Therefore, it has become crucial for media content providers, to incorporate algorithmic gatekeepers, which filter, rank and recommend content. How are these algorithmic gatekeepers determining media’s contribution to epistemic welfare? The ALGEPI initiative aims to examine this question.
